I grew up going to Carolina Beach, and it’s still my favorite beach to this day. Nostalgia factor aside, it’s a fabulous location to spend a day (or two or three).

From under the shade of two yellow umbrellas (from Pleasure Island rentals–soooo worth it!), you can watch the waves to your heart’s content.

The great thing about CB is the boardwalk. Restaurants and shops fill the boardwalk, along with carnival rides–of that’s your thing. Salty’s is a great place for a crab boil. Fudgeboat is there to satisfy your sweet tooth. And Britt’s Donuts has been a Carolina Beach staple since the 1930’s.

The donuts are made right in front of you, and while you may have to wait in line, they’re well worth it. Hot and fresh and fluffy–everything you could ever want from a donut.
The boardwalk illuminates the beach at night, creating the perfect ambiance for a walk on the beach to end a long, sunny day.

The next morning, Kate’s Pancake House is the ultimate breakfast location.

You’ll definitely have to wait, but they’re efficient and we were in within 30 minutes. We ordered the Caribbean Pleasure–bananas and chocolate and pecans with whipped cream–and a side of bacon. One of our teenagers ordered the same, the other ordered the Pancake Trio with Boston Creme, Very Berry, and Caribbean Pleasure.
