Pop’s Butts in the Creek, Maggie Valley, NC

As we were climbing out of the electric blue Mustang, an older gentleman who was heading to his car called out a warning: “The brisket is dry, but the sausage was good!”

Not exactly a good sign to start our dinner, but we were here and the bar was now low, so we proceeded down the path.

Outside of Butts in the Creek

There was a whimsy charm to the place. It was also exactly as I pictured an established BBQ joint to be. We were sat right away, and our server was friendly.

I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and hush puppies while Nick–daring parking lot guy to be wrong–ordered the brisket dinner with baked mac & cheese and baked apples.

Pulled pork sandwich (with their house sweet barbecue sauce): 4/5

Hush puppies: 3/5

Brisket: 4/5

Mac & cheese: 4/5

Baked apples: 5/5

Texas toast: 2/5

Sweet tea: 5/5

Atmosphere: 4/5

Service: 4/5

Overall Rating: 4/5 – Nacho-Ordinary

After savoring our dinner, we deemed Parking Lot Guy to have either lost his taste buds, common sense, or both. Butts on the Creek was charming and tasty–a definite recommend!
